An accident happened at 5:50 Saturday evening in Dent County on Highway 32 about four miles west of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire driven by 16-year old Kayla Howard of Salem, was rounding a curve and began skidding. The 2001 Pontiac Sunfire ran off the left side of the road and went through a fence. Kayla Howard suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to Salem Memorial District Hospital. The 2001 Pontiac Sunfire sustained minor damages and was removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing. Howard was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident.
An accident happened in Dent County Sunday at 2:00 on Dent County Road 626 about 4/10ths of a mile from Dent County Road 624. According to the highway patrol report, a 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by 27-year old Timothy Clark of Salem, lost control of the vehicle in a curve and slid into the path of a 1995 Dodge Ram driven by 54-year old Raymond Gibbs of Salem. Suffering minor injuries was Timothy Clark but no treatment was needed. The Chevy Monte Carlo sustained extensive damage in the accident while the Dodge ram had only minor damages. Neither vehicle was towed from the scene. Both Clark and Gibbs were wearing seat restraints at the time of the accident.
The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their regular meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 7:00. The Board will conduct a public hearing where City Attorney Mark Weaver will report on the Planning and Zoning hearing and meeting held prior to the Board meeting regarding the re-zoning of 1101-1105 South MacArthur, owned by David E & JoAnn Wells from Residential R-3 to commercial, the re-zoning of 1509 South Wines, owned by David Wells from Residential R-3 to Commercial, to be used for a Storage Unit Business and the re-zoning of 601 South MacArther, owned by the Dent County Health Center from Residential R-3 to Commercial. After the approval of the consent agenda, Planning & Zoning Board Chairman Sean Curley will report on their meeting regarding the re-zonings as well as changing the current Planning & Zoning Code Section 30-173 regarding Mobile Home Subsection (1) and (2). Alderman Bill Riley, Mike Whitley, Jim Jackson, and Jim McDaniels would like to discuss miscellaneous items involving the city. McDaniels would also like updates on the soccer fields and an estimated completion date for the setting of the culvert at the City Park. McDaniels would like to discuss the storm water problem on West Fourth Street and driveway work on Westwood Drive. Mayor Gary Brown will then give his comments are various items pertaining to the City of Salem. Bill #3117, an ordinance amending section 23-39 of the Salem City Code pertaining to user fees for the Salem City Hall and the Salem Freedom Activity Center will be presented to the Board. After the approval of bills, the Board will then go into Closed Session for the purpose of discussing personnel, real estate and litigation. The regular meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.
TheSalem Lady Basketball Tigers will be hosting the Lady Bears from Willow Springs in an SCA tilt this evening from the Salem High School Gym. Salem enters the game with a 10-2 record and a 1-0 record in the SCA. The JV will start play at 6:00 followed by the varsity game. The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers will be back in action tomorrow night as they will travel to Sullivan to face the Eagles in non-conference action. The JV will start things out at 6:00 followed by the varsity game. Salem has lost three of their last four games.
The St. Louis Cardinals announced Friday that they have signed utility infielder Aaron Miles to a one-year contract. Miles played at five different positions for the Cardinal last year including his first Major League appearances in the outfield and as a pitcher. The 31-year-old played the last two seasons with St. Louis, compiling a .290 average last year in 133 games.
Manny Legace made 27 saves for his third shutout of the season as the St. Louis Blues held on for a 1-0 win over the Carolina Hurricanes at Scottrade Center. Lee Stempniak scored the lone goal on assists from Ryan Johnson and Jay McKee for the Blues, who have won two of their last three. The Blues will face Columbus Tuesday.

Funeral services for Clarence Elmer Perry of Rolla, age 70, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Rhea Cemetery in Phelps County.
Graveside services for Margaret Lally of St. Louis, age 90, will be held today at 1:00 at the Steelville Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.
Funeral services for Charles Ray Cassidy of Cherryville, age 72, will be held Tuesday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Chapel in Steelville. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 today. Interment will be in the Freeman Cemetery in Cherryville. Memorials may be given to any trust fund for the continued work for the lord.
A Funeral Mass for Edward F. Larson of Salem, formerly of Woonsocket, South Dakota, age 91, will be held Wednesday morning at 7:00 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Salem. Visitation will be from Tuesday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell, South Dakota. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.
Funeral services for Sam Halbert of Steelville, age 34, will be held Wednesday at 1;00 at the Straightway Baptist Church in Steelville. Visitation will be held Tuesday night from 4:00 to 8:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Straightway Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Halbert Children’s Fund.
Funeral services for Gilbert Wayne Davis of Steelville, age 82, will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Chapel in Steelville. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 Wednesday. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Midland Pentecostal Assembly of the Missouri Veteran’s Home.
