An accident happened in Iron County Wednesday evening at 6:00 on Highway 32 about 1.4 miles west of Route DD. According to the highway patrol, a 1997 Chevrolet driven westbound by 51-year old Raymond Norris of Salem, crossed the centerline and struck the towing unit of a 1989 Ford driven by 48-year old John Stegall of Bismarck. Norris suffered serious injuries and was flown by Air Evac to St. Johns Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis. Stegall suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Iron County Hospital. The Chevy was totaled in the accident and removed from the scene by Abney Towing out of Viburnum. The 1989 Ford was driven from the scene with minor damage. Both Norris and Stegall were wearing seat restraints at the time of the accident.

The Dent County Commissioners held their meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In road reports, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 5390, 5400 and 6460. He also said that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 6280, two trucks would be hauling brown rock and one man would be screening rock at the road and bridge shed. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 3160 and 5240, and two workers would be hauling material to and grading would be done on Dent County Road 2120. Larson wanted to remind county residents that anyone that has a complaint about their roads, they should call the road and bridge shed at 729-7770 to report their issues. If there is no answer, please leave your name and phone number and a brief message regarding the issues regarding the road in question. Presiding Commissioner Darrel Skiles reported that all three Commissioners were in Jefferson City on Wednesday along with other county commissioners around Missouri, to meet with representatives of Senator Brown as well as other legislative representatives regarding issues affecting counties in Missouri. Some issues included a future reduction of assessment reimbursements from the State, and the county budget amendments bill. Skiles also reported the schedule for upcoming work on three bridges in Dent County. Work will begin on Monday, April 16th on the Route NN Bridge; April 30th is the start date of the work to be done on the Highway 32 Bridge and on May 14th the work will begin on the Highway H Bridge. Skiles will be attended the Transportation Advisory Committee meeting Thursday afternoon and the MRPC meeting Thursday night in St. James. There will be no Commissioner meeting on Monday, April 16th as all three commissioners and the county clerk will be in Jefferson City attending the Missouri Association Committee annual legislative conference. The Quarterly Evening meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday, April 23rd at the Judicial Building beginning at 7:00 pm. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley wanted to remind voters to be sure and check their voter cards and if they have had any changes such as name or address, to please stop by her office and call 729-4144. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be next Thursday morning, April 19th beginning at 9:00 am at the courthouse, and that meeting is open to the public.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has released several arrest reports. On Friday, April 6th at 1:45 in the early morning, 43-year old Harold Smith of Rolla was arrest and charged with driving while intoxicated, failure to illuminate his license plate, and no seatbelt. He was taken to the Phelps County Jail and later released. On Saturday, April 7th at 2:00 in the early morning, 30-year old Denver Blackwell of Salem was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, no seatbelt, and failure to maintain the right half of the roadway. He was taken to the Dent County Jail and later released. Later that evening at 9:10, 41-year old Rodney Callahan of Bunker was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and failure to maintain the right half of the roadway. He was taken to the Dent County Jail and later released.

Brady Floyd struck out 13 Willow Springs Bears and allowed only two hits in going the distance in a 5-0 Salem Tiger win on Thursday. Floyd also had two hits and drove in a run for the Tigers who improved to 7-3 overall and 3-1 in the SCA. Austin Bettigrew drove in two runs with a double and Lane Stluka tripled in a run as Salem prepares for their tournament with St. James, Licking, and Eldon that starts today, HAS BEEN CANCELLED and is still on for tomorrow morning at 10:00, WEATER PERMITING. The tournament games will NOT be broadcast on KSMO Radio.

The Salem Golf team finished second with a score of 170, and Thayer won the meet with a 160 in Cuba on Thursday. Salem was led with a 40 from Dylan Sisco, Alan Benowitz and C.J. Davison 42, Ben Adams 46, and Nathan Anderson 50, which did not count towards the total. Salem will be at Mt. Grove on Monday.

The Salem Track team will be in Cuba this afternoon at 3:00 for the Cuba Invitational.

Martin Havlat scored 3:34 into the second overtime to give the San Jose Sharks a 3-2 win over the St. Louis Blues in Game 1 of a Western Conference quarterfinal series. Patrik Berglund scored both goals for the Blues and  Jaroslav Halak made 31 saves in the loss. Game 2 will be Saturday night at 6:30, and you can hear it on KSMO.

The St. Louis Cardinals had the day off yesterday but will start a series with the Chicago Cubs this afternoon at 1:00. They will continue the series this weekend, as they’ll play Saturday at 11:00 and Sunday at 12:40. You can hear all three games on KSMO Radio.

The Kansas City Royals had the day off yesterday but will start a three game series against the Cleveland Indians this afternoon.

Funeral services for Gary Lee Plank of Salem, age 63, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be Wednesday at 11:00 until the service time at 1:00. Memorials may be made to the family.
