The Dent County Commissioners held their meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In road reports, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading would be done on Dent County Road 6670, and material would be hauled to Dent County Roads 5390, 5450 and 6255. Material will also be added and ditch work will be performed with a crossover pipe being installed on Dent County Road 6200. He went on to report that brown rock was being hauled and work was being performed on the brush cutter that broke down this week. Purcell went on to report that bids have been let out for the Swiney Bridge Project and are due June 4th at 10:00 am. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2330 and 4350 and material would be hauled to Dent County Roads 3193 and 4353. He also stated that brown rock was also being hauled for the screening process. Larson stated that the permit for the bridge on Dent County Road 3210, the hospital road was obtained. The middle of the bridge has already been taken out and due to extreme wear and tear on the county equipment, Bryan Smith was to come in next week to help take out rest of the bridge before the temporary bridge can be built. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he attended the Central Region Workforce Investment Board Caucus on Wednesday and reported that unemployed traffic was down this month compared to last month and for the same time period for last year. Skiles reported that the program to put young people to work at state parks and historic sites is back again this year and that there are about 18 openings in our area including: Montauk, the Dillard Mill and Onondaga. This program is open to youth age 17 to 23 and there are income guidelines for eligibility. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be at 9:00 am on Thursday, May 31st. The Dent County Courthouse will be closed Monday, May 28th in observance of Memorial Day.
The Dent County Sheriff’s Office released their reports involving counterfeit one hundred dollar bills, a stolen vehicle from Phelps County and a stolen truck, cell phone and handgun. On Tuesday, May 15th at 10:46 pm, the Dent County Sheriff's Office received a telephone call from a subject reporting that he had just sold three lawn mowers to a subject and that he believed the one hundred dollar bills to be counterfeit. The victim stated that two subjects regarding the sale of three of his lawn mowers contacted him. He stated that the subjects arrived shortly after speaking with him on the phone. The victim was given what he believed was five one hundred dollar bills as part of the payment. Upon returning home he discovered that all of the one hundred dollar bills had the same serial number. Further investigation lead to the arrest of the two subjects using the one hundred dollar bills. On Thursday, May 17th, deputies responded to the 25000 block of Highway C for a report of a vehicle parked off the roadway. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. A computer check of the vehicle's VIN showed that the vehicle had been stolen from a location in Phelps County. The vehicle was impounded, awaiting processing by the Rolla Police Department. On Friday, May 18th, at 9:10 pm, Joseph Leon Black contacted the Dent County Sheriff's Office in reference to his truck being stolen from his residence located at on Highway 19 North. Black stated that a female and a male named Jeremy accompanied him. He said the two subjects wanted him to go with them on a road trip and drink and he refused. Black said he then went to use the restroom inside his residence and when he came back out, the two subjects had left heading southbound on Highway 19. Black said the subjects also stole his cell phone, half gallon of whiskey and a 22-caliber magnum handgun. Black described his truck as being a 1994 Mazda 4x2 white in color with a Missouri License plate number of 7MG-815. Anyone with any information regarding the stolen vehicle from Phelps County or the stolen truck, cell phone and handgun reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Office by calling 729-3241.
The Salem Baseball Tigers will face South Calloway Saturday night at Busch Stadium following the St. Louis Cardinal/Philadelphia Phillie Game. The game will not be broadcast live on KSMO, but will be played back on a delayed basis next week.
Shane Victorino and rookie Freddy Galvis both knocked in three runs to propel the Philadelphia Phillies to a 10-9 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in the opener of a four-game series at Busch Stadium. Yadier Molina clubbed a two-run homer as part of a 4-for-5 performance, and Matt Holliday and David Freese added solo blasts for St. Louis, which was coming off a three-game home sweep of San Diego. The Cards and Phillies play again tonight and you can hear it on KSMO at 6:40.
The Royals had the day off yesterday but will start a series with the Baltimore Orioles tonight.
