The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. At the meeting, Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that the chip and seal company, APAC, would be brought in their equipment Monday in preparation to start the chip and seal process today on the Cedar Grove Road. District one crews will be preparing the road by watering down and repairing where needed. Their goal is to get the road finished as quickly as possible so as to not interfere with traffic that needs to use that road to get to the river. Simpson said that workers will also be preparing the two cost share chip and seal roads, and work is going to be done on Dent County Road 624 where materials are being added. In District 2, Commissioner J.J. Tune says that it is almost too dry to grade. Brush is being cut in the Boss area on Dent County Road 530 and when finished, the brush cutter will move to Dent County Road 537A. He said that Dent County Road 221 is still being rebuilt and materials are being added, plus a crossover pipe needs to be installed. Tune reported that workers would be changing tires on the small dump truck and then “tweaking” the Putman Lake Road in getting it ready for chip and seal. Dent County Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that a local emergency planning committee meeting with SEMA’s Jim Paisley will be held at 10:00 this morning to go over what went wrong in Washington County last year during a power outage. He also reported that the Ozark Rivers Solid waste Management District reports that $140,000 in grant money is available for those who want to submit solid waste disposal projects. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that the Dent County Community Outreach Survey came back with ten “no” votes and one “yes” vote, so Presiding Commissioner Skiles said there will not be a community outreach night. Curley also reported that she received the balances from the county treasurer, and both the county clerk and treasurer’s balances match. Sheriff Bob Wofford gave his report for the month of June before bids were opened for the rural addressing for the county. Bids were received from VAC, Inc., GeoCom and Spatial Data Research. The bids ranged from about $64,500 to $108,450. The commissioners are going to have review each bid to see if they require local participation or if the company will do all the work with their crew, and also to make sure that the bids match up apples to apples. A final decision is expected next week as the commissioners are holding Board of Equalization meetings the rest of this week. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

An accident happened this morning at 12:25 in Texas County on Highway 63 about a half mile of Houston. University of Missouri senior forward Kalen Grimes has been suspended indefinitely following a violation of team rules. The action comes after Grimes, who started 24 of Missouri's 30 games last season and averaged 7.0 points and 5.6 rebounds, was involved in an undisclosed incident in the St. Louis suburb of Florissant over the weekend. With this suspension, Kalen will not be allowed to work out with our team and must take the necessary steps to not only earn the trust of his coaches and teammates, but the trust of Missouri's alumni and fan base. The program implemented a zero-tolerance policy last week after DeMarre Carroll was shot in the ankle during a disturbance outside a nightclub in Columbia.

Vladimir Guerrero needed to hit just three homers in the final to defeat Alex Rios for the 2007 Home Run Derby title Monday night at AT&T Park. Guerrero, of the Angels, ended with a total of 17 homers, including nine in the second round, to take the title for the first time in his career. Rios, of the Blue Jays, hit a second-round high 12 homers after hitting five in the first round, but managed only two in the final round. He was vying to become the first Toronto player to win the derby. The two-round total is wiped out heading into the final, as both contestants start from scratch. The duo outlasted Colorado's Matt Holliday and St. Louis' Albert Pujols to earn the spot in the final. Both had a total of 13 total homers, with Holliday hitting eight and Pujols nine in the second round.
