At the Salem High School Field Friday night, Sarah Barton was crowned the 2007 Homecoming Queen. Her court consisted of seniors Hannah Tilley and Lydia Thomas, junior Hannah Kettner and sophomore Shala Plank.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their report for the month of September. For the month there were 83 9-1-1- calls, in which all were responded to with 23 of the calls being prank calls. The Department served 135 papers consisting of 88 civil papers, 46 criminal papers and one notice to vacate. During the month, there were six drug arrests and 13 domestic disturbance calls were addressed. The Sheriff’s Department issued 28 tickets, made three DWI arrests and assisted on 21 traffic accidents. The Dent County Sheriff’s Department also conducted two death investigations. For the month of September, the Sheriff’s Department investigated four burglaries, six assaults, nine thefts and four property damage reports. The Department spent 130 hours working in court and 17.5 hours testifying. The Dent County Sheriff’s Department handled a total of 384 calls during the month and made 33 community policing appearances. In the Dent County Jail Report for September, there were 53 prisoners incarcerated for the month with an average daily total of 12. There were four transfers to the Department of Corrections and 11 transfers to or from other departments. During the month of September, the sheriff’s department drove a total of 14,920 miles on criminal investigations, patrolling and prisoner transportation.

Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) crews will apply a coat of oil to Route TT in Dent County, beginning Wednesday, October 10th. Workers will be on the roadway through Thursday between the hours of 6:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. The process of applying the coat of oil is known as fly coating. It is designed to provide an added layer of sealant to the traveling surface, which further preserves the asphalt. Motorists should plan ahead and allow extra time due to a one-lane restriction. MoDOT urges motorists to proceed slowly through the work zone. Crews with the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will began pull paving on Route 32 in Iron County, from the junction of Route 21 to the junction of Route 49 south, on Friday. Traffic will be restricted to one lane Tuesdays through Fridays from 7:30 am to 4 pm, through the month of October. Pull paving will be performed on sections of the road to restore a smooth ride. Work zone signing will be in place and motorists should expect minimal delays. An accident occurred at 2:40 Sunday morning in Texas County on Highway 63 about two miles north of Cabool. According to the highway patrol report, a 2005 Ford driven by 22-year old Aaron Reed of Licking, ran off the right side of the road, vaulted a driveway approach, overturned, and came to rest on it’s side. Reed suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Texas County Memorial by Texas County ambulance. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford was totaled and removed from the scene by Cabool Towing.

The Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center will have a quilt exhibit beginning Tuesday. They would like everyone to come and view the fine selection of contemporary quilts made by local quilt makers, many with stories about the quilt or quilt maker. Justin Davis scored two touchdowns and Max Ball rushed the ball 23 times for 125 yards as the Salem Tigers won their second straight SCA game with a 34-18 win over the Willow Springs Bears Friday night. Cody Wofford threw two touchdown passes and scored one himself as Salem moves to 2-4 on the year. They will be at Mountain View Friday night.

Chase Daniel completed 33-of-47 passes for 401 yards and two touchdowns, and rushed for 72 yards on 11 carries for another pair of scores, as the 17th-ranked Missouri Tigers pounded the 25th-ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers, 41-6, in a Big 12 showdown at Faurot Field.  Jeremy Maclin rushed for 55 yards on seven carries for Missouri, which was idle last weekend after notching four wins over non-conference opponents. Martin Rucker caught nine passes for 109 yards and a score. Missouri is now 5-0 on the year and will be at Oklahoma next Saturday afternoon at 5:30.

Erik Johnson's first professional goal proved to be the game-winner as St. Louis scored four times in the third period to upend Los Angeles, 5-3, at Staples Center. Jamal Mayers scored twice for the Blues, who won their first game of the season in head coach Andy Murray's return to Los Angeles. Keith Tkachuk and David Backes also tallied while Paul Kariya and Lee Stempniak registered two assists each. The Blues will open their home season Wednesday night against Nashville.

Kurt Warner threw for 190 yards with one touchdown and one interception in place of the injured Matt Leinart, as the Arizona Cardinals held off the St. Louis Rams, 34-31. Gus Frerotte went 24-of-43 for 262 yards. He tossed three touchdown passes for the winless Rams (0-5), but also threw three interceptions. Rookie running back Brian Leonard rushed for 102 yards on 18 carries, while Torry Holt had five catches for 89 yards and a score in defeat.

David Garrard was 20-of-27 for 218 yards and one touchdown as the Jacksonville Jaguars beat the Kansas City Chiefs, 17-7, at Arrowhead Stadium. Tony Gonzalez caught eight passes for 100 yards for Kansas City (2-3). Damon Huard, who suffered a right shoulder contusion while throwing an interception to Reggie Nelson and was replaced by Brodie Croyle late in the fourth quarter, finished 19-of-30 for 196 yards with an interception.

Funeral services for Mildred M. Wilson, age 79, of Salem, will be today at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel. Interment will be in the Mount Hermon Cemetery.

Graveside services for Patricia Hall of Tucson, Arizona, age 50, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Boss Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery.
