The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. Andrea Cowan, of Rommel’s Lock and Alarm, was in to gather input about the work to date on the security system and to see if there were individual office requests and concerns. Dent County Assessor Tina Whitaker requested an additional monitor for her office and the Commissioners approved the request. Whitaker indicated she has scheduled a meeting with IntrisiCorp, the provider of the GIS mapping software, for December 16 at 1:00 at SBU and has invited all taxing entities. Ruth Anne Parker was by to thank the Commissioners for the 8 hours of MRPC grant writing services done by Kelly Sinclair that the Commissioners had provided for the $422,000 tax credit grant. Parker said that she presented the grant to the Missouri Development Finance Board, which grants the tax credits, and they were very complimentary of the application and the proposed project. The 50% tax credit grant applications will be announced December 17. In the road report District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that he had one crew replacing roadway signs and picking up trash. Purcell went on to say that he had a second crew cleaning up around the Road and Bridge Department, as well as doing some organizing, landscaping and miscellaneous. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that materials were being hauled to Dent County Roads 5225 and 5240. Larson shared comments Bill Sentman had made he appreciated the compliments and positive remarks Commissioners had made about the Salem MoDOT crew. All Commissioners agreed that they have a great working relationship with the Salem crew. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he had attended the Central Region Workforce Investment Board meeting and wanted to let everyone know that the Career Center in Rolla is moving from Forum Drive to 706 South Bishop. Skiles said that the move would result in an estimated annual savings of around $80,000. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that her office is continuing to work on 2014 budgets and that office holders are turning in their budgets. Curley updated the Commissioners on the fact that three Initiative Petitions have been filed relative to early voting and the legislative committee has looked at them. Curley said that if passed the IP’s would result in incredible costs since the state would incur none of the costs and that she would be preparing a fiscal note to send to the state. Commissioner Purcell noted that he had attended a Tourism Committee meeting on Monday and that the TCRC Mass Mailing request for $21,000 had been approved. The Commissioners contacted MoDOT and tentatively set December 9th as the date for grand opening and ribbon cutting of the Highway 32 East improvements. The location is to be determined. Curt Faigle, Chairman of the 100-Acre Wood Rally, was in to discuss the event. Tentatively the majority of the event will be held similar to last year. Faigle proposed a new stage, but after discussion the Commissioners felt it wasn’t a good choice. Faigle will be back in December as plans become finalized. Dent County Collector Denita Williams was in to update the Commissioners on CART receipts. She reported that year to date receipts are up $1,567.54 when compared to 2012 and that November 2013 was up $1086.57 when compared to November 2012. The Commissioners approved closing the Courthouse November 28 and 29 for Thanksgiving Holiday and December 24 and 25 for Christmas Holiday. The Commissioners voted to pay the bills.  The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and that meeting is open to the public.
