On Monday, the Dent County Sheriff’s Department surveillance cameras identified 57-year old Allen Gott of Salem, as he allegedly intentionally drove a pick-up truck into a Missouri State Highway Patrol vehicle in the afternoon around 3:41. The patrol car was parked in the Dent County Sheriff’s Department lot while the trooper was appearing in court. The impact shoved the highway patrol car into a Sheriff’s Department vehicle next to the highway patrol car. Both the Sheriff’s vehicle and the highway patrol vehicle sustained significant damage. Gott was arrested minutes later by the Salem Police officers at a local motel. He is currently incarcerated in the Dent County Jail pending formal charges. Gott was on probation for a similar offense at the Salem Police Department earlier in the year.

The Salvation Army Service Unit of Dent County would like to announce that this year’s Christmas kettle campaign would begin today and run every weekend until Saturday, December 27th. The kettles will be located at Wal-Mart, Country Mart and Dollar General. Counter Kettles will be placed at various locations around Dent County. The 2008 goal is $20,000 and, with the continuation of a local mail appeal and the hundreds of volunteer hours donated by individuals, businesses and clubs to ring the bell at the Christmas kettle, The Salvation Army is confident that local citizens will support this campaign generously as they have in the past. Honorary Christmas Campaign Chairman Liz Gruendel, wants to thank everyone, in advance, for their donation of money, time, or both during the Christmas season to help make a brighter 2009 for those less fortunate. The funds raised during this campaign will be used to assist the citizens of Dent County with gas, utility assistance, and prescriptions.  The Salvation Army also supplies local school children with backpacks, assistance to fire victims and gifts to the residents of local nursing homes. The generosity of the citizens of Dent County will enable the local Salvation Army to continue to meet the needs of those who need assistance in 2009. If you need additional information about the local Salvation Army, please call Jim and Diane Boulware at 729-6685 or Sherry Lea at 729-8163.
